In heavy industrial projects pursuing  ultimate load capacity, does ordinary steel grating suffer from twisting due to insufficient lateral stiffness? In high-end architectural decoration, do weld points damage the overall aesthetics of the grating?

Press-locked steel grating, with its unique “bidirectional load-bearing” structure and exquisite “weld-free press-locked” process, conquers both engineers and architects.

With 18 years of expertise in the press-locked grating field, we operate 1200-ton large-scale presses and fully automatic CNC slotting production lines. From heavy-load platforms at ports and docks to artistic ceilings in subway stations, from offshore drilling platforms to commercial complex shading systems, we deliver top-tier grating solutions featuring 30% increased load capacity, millimeter-level precision, and the perfect combination of industrial strength and architectural aesthetics.

What is Press-Locked Steel Grating?

Press-locked steel grating, also known as interlocking steel grating or pressure-locked grating, is a steel grating product with high load-bearing capacity. It is manufactured from materials such as ordinary carbon steel flat bars, stainless steel, brass plates, aluminum plates, etc., through processes including slotting (perforating), interlocking press-locking, welding, and finishing.

Its fundamental difference from ordinary welded steel grating lies in this: the cross bars of ordinary steel grating are twisted square steel, while the cross bars of press-locked steel grating are flat bars—just like the bearing bars. The flat bars in both longitudinal and transverse directions are interlocked and press-locked to form an integral structure, creating a truly bidirectional load-bearing system.

Four Core Advantages of Press-Locked Steel Grating

✅ Bidirectional Load-Bearing – 50% Increased Lateral Stiffness

Ordinary welded steel grating only bears load in the direction of the bearing bars; the cross bars (twisted square steel) serve only as connectors. In contrast, the transverse and longitudinal flat bars of press-locked steel grating share the load together, with a section modulus far exceeding that of twisted square steel—resulting in higher load capacity and superior lateral stability.

This structure effectively prevents tilting instability in large-size bearing bars, making it especially suitable for heavy-load applications with large spans and high load.

✅ Weld-Free Press-Locking – Millimeter-Level Precision

The core process of press-locked steel grating is slotting and press-locking: bearing bars are slotted, cross bars are inserted into the slots, and then pressed tightly under 1200 tons of pressure. This mechanical interlocking structure requires no welding at each intersection yet achieves permanent locking.

Due to Precision molds processing, the hole spacing is uniform, the mesh surface is flat, and the assembly precision reaches millimeter level—a level difficult to achieve with ordinary welding processes.

✅ Exquisite Appearance – Both Industrial Product and Work of Art

The weld-free surface of press-locked steel grating presents a uniformly Precise, naturally harmonious, and elegantly stylish visual effect. Cross bars and bearing bars merge perfectly, creating a strongsense of wholeness —it is both a functional product and an artistic creation.

This characteristic makes it highly popular in civil and commercial buildings, theaters, subways, urban railways, and other municipal engineering projects with high aesthetic requirements.

✅ Multi-Material Adaptability – Meeting Diverse Needs

The press-locking process is suitable for various materials. We can provide the optimal choice based on your application environment:

Q235 Low Carbon Flat Bar: Best cost-effectiveness, suitable for standard industrial platforms

Stainless Steel (304/316L): Strong corrosion resistance, ideal for marine environments, food processing plants, high-end decoration

Aluminum Plate (6063/6061): Lightweight and beautiful, suitable for architectural curtain walls, ceiling decoration

Brass Plate: Special decorative requirements

Four Model Series – Precisely Matching Application Scenarios

Based on insertion methods and structural characteristics, we divide press-locked steel grating into four series:

Series Process Features Core Advantages Application Scenarios
Pressed Type (Standard) Bearing bars slotted, cross bars press-locked. Cross bar size smaller than bearing bar—combines interlocking features with cost savings High cost-effectiveness, Precise assembly, lightweight structure Standard industrial platforms, walkways, stair treads
Heavy-Duty Type Tall bearing bars and cross bars interlock, pressed tightly under 1200 tons of pressure Ultimate load capacity, strong impact resistance, minimal deflection Port and dock loading platforms, mining heavy machinery areas, power plant boiler platforms, chemical plant maintenance walkways
Integral Type Bearing bars and cross bars same height; slot depth = 1/2 of bearing bar height Balanced force distribution, strong sense of wholeness, uniform appearance Equipment platforms, maintenance walkways, medium-load applications
Shading Type Bearing bars slotted at 30° or 45° angle; cross bars slotted and press-locked 3D visual effect, rich light and shadow variation, combines ventilation and shading Building curtain walls, shading systems, decorative ceilings, ventilation shafts

*Production Limitation Note: Maximum processing height for standard and integral press-locked grating is 100mm; length typically < 2000mm.*

Application Scenarios: Comprehensive Coverage from Heavy-Duty Industrial to High-End Architectural

Leveraging its dual characteristics of bidirectional load-bearing and exquisite  appearance, press-locked steel grating has an extremely wide range of applications:

Field Application Scenarios Recommended Series
Heavy-Duty Industrial Port and dock loading platforms, mining heavy machinery areas, power plant boiler platforms, chemical plant maintenance walkways Heavy-Duty / Integral Type
Municipal Engineering Subway station platforms, urban rail waiting platforms, pedestrian bridges, drainage channel covers Pressed / Integral Type
Architectural Decoration Shopping mall atrium ceilings, theater ceilings, exterior facade shading systems, interior partitions Shading Type
Commercial Spaces Advertising signage, ventilation openings (shafts), landscape fences, stair treads Pressed / Shading Type
Marine Engineering Offshore drilling platform walkways, ship decks (stainless steel material) Heavy-Duty / Integral Type

Press-Locked vs. Ordinary Welded: How to Choose?

Comparison Item Press-Locked Steel Grating Ordinary Welded Steel Grating
Cross Bar Form Flat bar Twisted square steel
Load-Bearing Characteristic Bidirectional load-bearing—cross bars participate in force transmission Load-bearing only in bearing bar direction
Lateral Stiffness High—flat bars  Not easy tilting instability Moderate
Appearance Texture Weld-free, uniformly precise, naturally harmonious Welded points, twisted square steel Appearance rougher
Production Cost Higher Lower, more economical
Application Scenarios Heavy-load platforms + architectural decoration Standard industrial platforms, walkways, trench covers

Selection Recommendation: If you pursuit ultimate load capacity or high-end aesthetics, press-locked type is the only choice; if you have standard industrial applications with budget constraints, ordinary welded type offers better cost-effectiveness.

Installation Guide

Press-locked steel grating can be fixed using methods similar to ordinary steel grating:

Welded Fixing: Weld grating panels to support beams for permanent connection. Before welding, remove zinc coating, paint, rust, oil, and water from support beams and grating surfaces. Weld length ≥ 25mm, leg height ≥ 5mm. After welding, clean slag and touch up with zinc-rich paint.

Bolt Fixing: Fix using mounting clamps—minimum 4 clamps per panel (approx. 1m²), installed at four corners.

Clamp Fixing: Suitable for applications requiring detachability.
