Composite Steel Grating Factory Direct | Steel Checker Plate Composite / FRP Fiberglass | Anti-Slip & Enclosed Dual Function | Meeting Industrial Platform & High-Corrosion Environment Requirements

In industrial platform design, have you ever faced this dilemma: Steel grating offers good ventilation but has openings—worried about tools falling through? Checker plate is anti-slip but too heavy, increasing the burden on steel structures? And in highly corrosive environments, metal grating requires frequent replacement, with maintenance costs remaining high?

Composite steel grating provides the perfect solution to both challenges.

With 20 years of deep cultivation  in the steel grating field, we operate both steel checker plate composite production lines and FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) molded manufacturing workshops. Based on your application scenario, we offer two completely different “composite” solutions—eliminating your confusion in product selection.

Important Note: The Difference Between Two Types of “Composite Steel Grating”

Before we begin, we need to clarify a common industry misconception: products marketed as “composite steel grating” actually come in two completely different types, with entirely distinct materials, processes, and application scenarios:

Type Material Composition Core Features Application Scenarios
Steel Checker Plate Composite Steel grating as base + checker plate as surface, welded together High-strength load-bearing + enclosed anti-slip surface Pedestrian overpasses, tool operating platforms, locations where openings are not permitted
FRP Fiberglass Composite Unsaturated polyester resin matrix + alkali-free fiberglass reinforcement Lightweight high-strength + excellent corrosion resistance + insulation Chemical plants, electroplating facilities, offshore platforms, wastewater treatment plants

Please select the corresponding product type based on your actual requirements. We can provide both and recommend the optimal solution for you.

Part 1: Steel Checker Plate Composite Grating – Enclosed Anti-Slip + High Load-Bearing

Product Definition

Steel checker plate composite grating is a composite product formed by combining steel grating with certain load-bearing capacity as the base plate, welded together with a surface checker plate. It utilizes both the anti-slip, opening-free characteristics of checker plate and the excellent load-bearing capacity of steel grating. Compared to using checker plate alone with steel section supports, it significantly reduces material costs and structural self-weight.

Core Advantages

✅ Enclosed Surface – Prevents Objects from Falling Through

In special applications (e.g., pedestrian overpasses, operating platforms), ISO industrial platform standards explicitly prohibit liquid accumulation and do not allow openings. The checker plate surface of steel checker plate composite grating is completely enclosed, effectively preventing tools and components from falling, protecting equipment and personnel below.

✅ 40% Increased Load Capacity, 30% Reduced Structural Self-Weight

Using high-strength steel grating such as G323/40/100 as the base, covered with 3-6mm checker plate. Compared to pure checker plate + steel section support solutions, this composite structure uses less steel, is lighter, and costs less under the same load conditions.

✅ Excellent Anti-Slip Performance

The surface checker plate features innate  anti-slip patterns, with a friction coefficient exceeding 0.7. Even in wet or oily environments, it maintains stable grip, making it especially suitable for locations with high anti-slip requirements such as pedestrian overpasses and stair treads.

✅ Rapid Drainage Design

Although the surface is enclosed, scientific drainage slope design achieves a drainage area of up to 83.3% , effectively preventing water accumulation and reducing slip risks.

Specifications & Selection

We offer standard composite steel grating series, as well as deep customization based on requirements:

Model Total Thickness (mm) Checker Plate Thickness (mm) Base Steel Grating Specification Max Span for Pedestrian Load (mm)
DGP23 23 3 DG205/40/100 1100
DGP28 28 3 DG255/40/100I 1300
DGP35 35 3 DG325/40/100I 1600
DGP41 41 3 DG385/40/100I 1900
DGP47 47 3 DG445/40/100I 2100
DGP53 53 3 DG505/40/100I 2400

Note: The above are the most common standard specifications. 4mm, 5mm, or 6mm checker plate, or other steel grating base specifications, can also be used. The “P” in the model number represents composite grating.

Application Scenarios

Pedestrian overpasses, walkways: Enclosed surface prevents objects from falling, ensuring pedestrian safety

Equipment operating platforms: Prevents tools and components from falling and damaging equipment below

Maintenance walkways: Balances load-bearing and anti-slip requirements

Stair treads: Checker plate surface provides excellent anti-slip performance

Part 2: FRP Fiberglass Composite Grating – Lightweight Corrosion-Resistant + Maintenance-Free

Product Definition

FRP fiberglass composite grating is a composite product manufactured through a special molding process, using unsaturated polyester resin as the matrix and alkali-free fiberglass as reinforcement material. It is not metal, yet it possesses strength exceeding metal and corrosion resistance far superior to metal.

Why Choose FRP Grating?

In environments with corrosive liquids and gases (such as electroplating plants, chemical plants), metal components corrode at an alarming rate. Even with protective coatings, frequent shutdowns for maintenance are required. The effectiveness of FRP grating in these areas has been validated by over 30 years of promotion in the United States and has been proven to be the most economical and reasonable material.

Six Core Advantages

✅ Exceptional Corrosion Resistance – 50 Years Without Rust

Possesses superior resistance to acids, alkalis, organic solvents, salts, and numerous gaseous and liquid media—unparalleled superiority in the anti-corrosion field. Based on actual application requirements, different resin types (orthophthalic, isophthalic, vinyl ester) can be economically selected as the matrix.

✅ Lightweight with High Strength – Only 1/4 Weight of Steel

Density approximately 1.8g/cm³, only 1/4 of steel and 2/3 of aluminum. Its strength is 10 times that of rigid PVC, with absolute strength exceeding aluminum and ordinary steel levels. Lightweight significantly reduces foundation support requirements, lowering engineering material costs.

✅ Insulating & Non-Magnetic – Safe and Reliable

Excellent electrical insulation—no breakdown at 10KV voltage. Non-magnetic, suitable for use with magnetically sensitive equipment. The special structure of FRP grating also offers anti-slip and anti-fatigue properties.

✅ Excellent Flame Retardancy

Standard flame retardant grating: Flame spread index (ASTM E-84) ≤ 25. Advanced flame retardant vinyl ester grating: Flame spread index ≤ 10, Oxygen Index (OI) ≥ 28 (GB 8924).

✅ Rich Colors – Enhances Environment

Colors can be freely selected: yellow, black, gray, green, blue, red, even transparent or translucent. Colors can be customized according to customer requirements, improving the workplace environment.

✅ Aging Resistant – 50+ Years Service Life

Theoretically, service life exceeds 50 years. In reconstruction projects in the Gulf region and Middle Eastern oil fields, FRP grating has been recognized by experts as the most economical and reasonable material and is widely used.

How to Select the Right Composite Grating for Your Project

Step 1: Determine Application Environment

Indoor/outdoor, no strong corrosion → Steel checker plate composite (economical and practical, high load-bearing)

Strong acids/alkalis, marine climate, insulation required → FRP type (corrosion-resistant, maintenance-free)

Step 2: Determine Load Requirements

Pedestrian load, light equipment → Choose DGP23-DGP35 series

Heavy equipment, vehicle passage → Choose DGP41-DGP53 series

FRP grating: 25mm thick for standard loads, 38mm thick for heavy loads

Step 3: Confirm Special Requirements

-Is it needed? openings or edge banding?
